The New York Yankees will be holding a press conference today announcing the retirement of first baseman Mark Teixeira
First reported by Buster Olney from ESPN, Teixeira – who previously played for the Texas Rangers, will retire at the end of this season at age 36.

Though Teixeira hasn’t had the best year so far – hitting just .198 so far – this will still be another blow to Yankees fans, following in the wake of the Carlos Beltran trade.

Teixeira would have been a free agent at the end of this season, as he is in the final year of his $180 million contract.
