Pakistani Defence Minister Khawaja Mohammad Asif fell for a fake news report alleging an Israeli nuclear threat against Pakistan – him to issue his own – real – threat.
A fake news story stated that the former Israeli Defence Minister said Israel would launch a nuclear strike on Pakistan if that country intervened in Syria.
That led to this tweet from Asif:
Israeli def min threatens nuclear retaliation presuming pak role in Syria against Daesh.Israel forgets Pakistan is a Nuclear state too AH

Only one problem: No Israeli Defence Minister – current or former – made a nuclear threat against Pakistan. Israel’s Ministry of Defence made that clear in their response:
@KhawajaMAsif reports referred to by the Pakistani Def Min are entirely false

Not a big confidence booster to see a nuclear armed power led astray by fake news. Let’s hope there’s a bit of fact checking in the nuclear launch process at least.
Asif did at least share this nice tweet on Christmas:
Our nuclear prgrm is only a deterrence to protect our freedom. We desire to coexist in peace , both in our region & beyond.@nytimes

We live in interesting times.
