A poll funded by the government shows Canadians want more traditional infrastructure funding – such as roads, bridges, and transit – rather than so called “new economy” tech infrastructure.
The poll reports that Canadians believe – and rightly so – that traditional infrastructure creates good jobs and helps grow the economy.
60% support traditional infrastructure, vs only 26% who want the alternative.
Unfortunately, this Canadian common-sense doesn’t seem to translate to our government. Despite blowing the budget wide-open with over $30 billion in new spending, Canada’s economy faces stagnation.
The fast-paced innovation of the tech sector is best left to private businesses. Government can certainly provide support through business loans and lower taxes, but big spending should be focused on fixing our broken infrastructure.
The “new economy” still needs roads and bridges and plumbing. Real infrastructure is still the foundation of our economic prosperity.
It’s time for the government to listen to the wisdom of the Canadian people.
