Canada Netflix Tax Is A Terrible Idea

Leave it to the government to find a new way to take our money

An internal document has revealed Canada’s federal government is considering a Netflix tax.

This would mean applying sales tax to the cost of a Netflix subscription (assuming you’re not using a friend’s).

It’s a terrible idea.

Considering how incompetently the government spends our money, they should be taking less of it, not more. And rather than learning anything from digital companies – such as innovation, efficiency, and reducing costs while improving service – the government keeps getting bigger, more expensive, and less effective with each passing day.

Canadians are already overtaxed, and the new carbon tax will make things way worse. The last thing we need is a Netflix tax – which will certainly lead to even more taxes eating away at our earnings and emptying our wallets even more.

Cut tax on Canadian content providers

Fairness in the tax system is important. That’s why instead of taxing Netflix and other services, Canada should cut the tax on Canadian digital content providers. This would provide fairness and give our companies a better chance to compete.

As I’ve said many times, we need to strengthen Canada’s domestic market and help build our economy here at home. Freeing Canadian content providers from the burden of heavy taxes would be a big step in the right direction.

It’s time for politicians to actually fix problems and think outside the box, instead of just finding more cheap excuses to steal our money from us.

Let’s say NO to the Netflix tax.
