Jeff Sessions Confirmed As Attorney General By US Senate

The United States Senate has confirmed Jeff Sessions as Attorney General.

The vote was 52 in favour, 47 against.

West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin – a Democrat – voted for Sessions. All others voted party-line.

Sessions’ nomination stirred strong emotions among members of both parties.

US Senator from Massachusetts Elizabeth Warren read a letter from Coretta Scott King from 1986 criticizing Sessions. She was later blocked from speaking after apparently violating senate rules.

In contrast, US Senator Tim Scott from South Carolina, spoke in support of Sessions, and detailed some of the hate he has received for being a black man who supported Sessions’ nomination.

Sessions will likely be sworn in tomorrow by US President Donald Trump.
