Canada did our job in Afghanistan. We should not send troops back there again.
Canadian troops fought bravely in Afghanistan. They fought the Taliban, saved lives, helped enable the building of schools, and made tremendous sacrifices.
158 brave Canadian soldiers lost their lives in the war.
In 2014, we formally ended our military mission in Afghanistan, and we left with our heads held high.
Having done the job, Canada is done in Afghanistan, and we should not go back.
And yet, despite the mission ending in 2014, NATO is now asking for Canada to consider a further commitment. At this point, the request appears limited to sending people to train police.
However, we know that “mission creep” is a huge risk, especially in Afghanistan.
NATO wants extra help because the Taliban is gaining in strength, so any new mission in that country could easily turn into another long term conflict.
“Where Empires Go To Die”
Afghanistan has been called “the graveyard of empires,” and with good reason. As noted by Global Research, “The Median and Persian Empires, Alexander the Great, the Seleucids, the Indo-Greeks, Turks, Mongols, British and Soviets all met the end of their ambitions in Afghanistan.”
As the wealthiest and most powerful military alliance on earth, NATO can certainly be described as a type of empire. And just like all the others, Afghanistan has been an immense challenge.
Consider it this way. The war in Afghanistan is the longest war in American & NATO history, and after all the loss of life, and all the spending, the most powerful military force in world history has been unable to stop the return of the Taliban.
At what point do we simply accept that we are done there?
Why should more Canadian lives be put at risk?
There are many Canadian soldiers and Veterans who have been horribly treated by our government. They served bravely in Afghanistan, and have been abandoned by our government when it came to treatment of physical and mental wounds. That is where our focus should be. We need to take care of our troops who came home from Afghanistan, not send more there.
We also need to focus on our own country and put our interests first. We have a dangerously underfunded military (and the Trudeau defence plan is a fraud). We have an air force that’s running out of planes, an army that is far too small, and a navy that barely even exists. We need to fix our own defences, not spend more lives and money in what is effectively a civil war.
Our troops did their job in Afghanistan. Afghanistan has a government, and they have at least the opportunity to fight for their future. We can’t stay there forever, and we can’t keep going back over and over and over again.
Canada is done in Afghanistan. We should not send troops there again.
The elites want to hide their many failures behind political correctness, deception, and manipulation. We need to push back and spread the truth.
That’s why I write.
