Phillips was 63-years-old.
Kevin Phillips – the MLA for Melfort – passed away suddenly last night at the age of 63.
Phillips, who was married and had four children in addition to five grandchildren, was first elected to the Saskatchewan Legislature in 2011, and was re-elected in 2016.
Phillips was previously the Mayor of Melfort, and part of the Melfort Journal Newspaper for 25 years.
He is credited with getting Melfort a new domestic violence shelter, which was the first opened in the province since the late 1980’s.
Saskatchewan Premier Brad Wall shared his thoughts on Phillip’s passing:

Here’s part of Wall’s statement:
“Kevin was in Regina yesterday preparing for another busy week representing the people of Melfort in the Assembly. So needless to say, his family, friends and colleagues are all shocked and saddened at his sudden and unexpected passing.”
“Flags at the Saskatchewan Legislature have been lowered to half-staff in his honour.”
“We will miss you, Kevin.”
