Manafort had been charged with 18 crimes in total.
Paul Manafort has been found guilty on 8 of 18 charges brought against him.
Manafort had faced multiple charges including lying to the IRS about his income, defrauding banks, and failing to report offshore accounts.
He was found guilty of five counts of tax fraud, along with two counts of bank fraud and one count of concealing a foreign bank account.
On 10 counts, the jury was unable to reach a verdict. As a result, the judge declared a mistrial on 10 counts.
Attention will now turn to whether U.S. President Donald Trump commutes Manafort’s sentence, pardons him entirely, or does nothing. Trump has repeatedly criticized the government for going after Manafort, leading many to believe he was signalling that he would intervene at some point.
Without intervention from Trump, Manafort faces the possibility of spending the rest of his life in prison.
