All civilized nations and civilized people must come together and unite against the scourge of vile anti-Semitism, and that means anti-Semitic groups must never get our tax dollars.
The horrific shooting at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, which was a terrorist act in which 11 innocent people were killed at the hands of Robert Bowers, is a stark reminder that anti-Semitism remains among the most brutal forms of prejudice in our world.
In the face of anti-Semitic hatred, all civilized nations and civilized people must come together and unite in our determination to end anti-Semitism, support and stand with the Jewish community, and make it clear that we will never accept or allow anti-Semitism in any form.
And a big part of making that clear statement is ensuring that our tax dollars never go towards anti-Semitic organizations.
Unfortunately, under the Trudeau government, tens of millions of Canadian taxpayer dollars are now being given to the UNRWA, a virulently anti-Semitic organization that spreads vile hatred.
Here’s what UN Watch reported about the UNRWA in April, 2017:
“Teachers and other employees of the U.N.’s Palestinian relief agency, according to a new UN Watch report presented today at the Canadian Parliament, are holding rallies to support the wave of Palestinian stabbings of Israelis, posting pictures and quotes of Adolf Hitler, glorifying Hamas terrorists, and instructing students to erase Israel from the map…”
“Despite our prior identification of UNRWA teachers who endorse Hitler and call for killing Jews,” said Hillel Neuer, executive director of the Geneva-based UN Watch, “I am not aware of a single UNRWA teacher who has been fired as a result, calling into question Canada’s claim, when it announced its $25 million funding decision in November, that UNRWA has a policy of ‘zero tolerance.’”
It doesn’t get any more anti-Semitic than that.
Yet, not only has the Trudeau government not done anything to crack down on anti-Semitism within the UNRWA, they recently announced $50 MILLION more in funding for the UNRWA – all of it paid for by Canadian taxpayer dollars.
UN Watch has made it clear that the UNRWA ‘incites terrorism and anti-Semitism.’ According to an executive summary of a report by UN watch presented to the US Congress, many UNRWA members were implicated in the spread of hatred:
“This report exposes more than 40 Facebook pages operated by school teachers, principals, and other employees of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), which incite to terrorism or antisemitism. The report is divided by region, and includes UNRWA staffers in Lebanon, Jordan, Gaza and Syria. These cases are additional to the 30 cases of incitement revealed at the end of 2015 by UN Watch.
The examples of incitement in this report include UNRWA teachers and staffers celebrating the terrorist kidnapping of Israeli teenagers, cheering rockets being fired at Israeli civilian centers, endorsing various forms of violence, erasing Israel from the map, praising Hitler and posting his photo, and posting overtly antisemitic videos, caricatures, and statements.”
Canadian leaders have rightfully condemned the horrific anti-Semitic terrorist attack in Pittsburgh. Shouldn’t they also be condemning the Trudeau government for giving our taxpayer dollars to a group spreading the same type of hatred and violence that recently led to so many deaths?
As reported by CJN, there have been concerns expressed some groups in the Jewish community regarding the Trudeau government funding the UNRWA – even before the new massive infusion of $50 million was announced:
“Canada’s recent pledge to give $10 million in emergency humanitarian assistance to Palestinian refugees in the West Bank and Gaza has met with skepticism from Jewish groups.
B’nai Brith Canada and the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA) worry that the body through which the aid will be channelled, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), continues to foment anti-Israel and anti-Semitic sentiment, and has ties to Hamas, which Canada considers to be a terrorist group.”
Additionally, “In a statement, B’nai Brith said that over the past few years, “numerous” examples have surfaced of textbooks used in UNRWA-run schools that foment “anti-Semitic and anti-Israel bias, even hatred.”
B’nai Brith cited a recent review by Princeton University Islamic scholar Arnon Groiss, which found that UNRWA teaching materials described Jews as the “Devils aides,” erased Jewish religious and historical links to Jerusalem and described all of Israel as “occupied Palestine.”
There have also been “persistent concerns” regarding the presence of Hamas members in UNRWA schools and facilities, B’nai Brith stated.
“We respect the underlying humanitarian goals of Canada’s contribution to UNRWA,” said B’nai Brith Canada CEO Michael Mostyn. “But one of Canada’s goals is to promote the establishment of a law-based, peaceful and prosperous society. We believe strongly that, in the education field, UNRWA has not sufficiently demonstrated its commitment to, and compliance with, these objectives.”’
Funding to the anti-Semitic UNRWA must be cut off immediately
As we can clearly see, the Trudeau government has ZERO credibility condemning anti-Semitism when they are simultaneously funding the anti-Semitic UNRWA with tens of millions of our tax dollars.
By giving our tax dollars to the UNRWA, the Trudeau government is enabling the same kind of anti-Semitic hatred that has exacted such a horrendous toll throughout history – most recently in the tragic terrorist attack in Pittsburgh.
As Canadians united against anti-Semitism, we need to demand that the Trudeau government immediately cut off any and all funding going towards the anti-Semitic UNRWA. Our tax dollars should NEVER be used to fund anti-Semitism.
