“The corporate heart goes with the head office – so we’re losing another company from Canada,” said Robert McEwen – who founded Goldcorp.
Goldcorp – a large Canadian mining company – is moving their head office from Vancouver to Greenwood Village, Colorado.
The move comes after Goldcorp was taken over by US-based Newmont Mining Corporation.
Robert McEwen – who founded Goldcorp and once served as the CEO – had this to say about it while speaking to BNN Bloomberg.
“The corporate heart goes with the head office – so we’re losing another company from Canada. So I think that’s a loss to the society in Canada.”
He added, “There’s a bit of a disconnect where we say we’re the financial centre for mining in the world, here in Toronto, but we don’t have many large gold mining companies anymore – or we won’t. And we lost our large base metals companies 10, 15 years ago.”
Here’s the Goldcorp founder discussing the loss:
Every time a company moves away from Canada, it’s another loss to our economy and our nation. And it sends another concerning signal about the direction of our economy in the long-term.
