Notre Dame Cathedral “Saved From Total Destruction,” Says Official

The spire and much of the roof collapsed, but a large part of the structure remains intact.

A French fire official says Notre Dame Cathedral has been “saved from total destruction.”

Earlier, there had been fears that the entire structure would be destroyed in the massive blaze.

However, firefighters were able to save much of the Cathedral, including the two historic and iconic towers.

‘“The worst has been avoided, but the battle isn’t fully won yet,” said French President Emmanuel Macron. “We will rebuild the cathedral together,” he added.

There are also reports that much of the interior has been saved as well, when it had been originally feared that fire had torn throughout the entire wooden structure.
