Newfoundland & Labrador Liberals Lose Majority, Barely Hold On To Power

Yet another Liberal government loses support and bleeds away votes.

With Liberal governments falling across the country due to discontent with Justin Trudeau’s endless failures, many were watching closely to see what would happen in Newfoundland & Labrador.

The incumbent Liberal government had won a massive majority in the last election, winning three quarters of the seats. They headed into the campaign with 27 seats in the 40 seat legislature, with a total of 21 seats needed for a majority.

With the results in, it appears that the Liberals have lost their majority in the province.

They have fallen down to 20 seats, while the PCs went from 6 to 15.

The NDP won 3 seats, with two independents also elected.

So, while it’s not a direct loss for the Liberals, it’s yet another example of them losing support across the nation. The Newfoundland and Labrador Liberals had won the popular vote in a landslide last time, yet barely won the popular vote this time.

And Newfoundland and Labrador was a province the Liberals won massively in the 2015 federal election.

That means tonight’s provincial election is yet more evidence that Justin Trudeau has had a devastating impact on the Liberal brand across the nation – even in former Liberal strongholds.

What is wrong with these newfies.. They should have sent the Liberals packing…I guess a minority government is better than a majority.. Less damage perhaps….

old white guy

liberalism is their heritage.

Less damage? Except the balance of power is held by the NDP…

soothing to know that Canadians ” from coast to coast to coast ” understand how lame this government is

I am Totally Shocked that the Citizens of Newfoundland have actually given these CORRUPT Liberals 20 Seats! Have these Voters Not been Aware that the Liberals have been Totally Destroying this Country, including Newfoundland Labrador in Every Way? What are these Voters thinking, or are they thinking??

Norbert Kausen

That is NOT good enough!!! The liberals should have been trounced…. BADLY!!! That they were voted back in, even if it is a minority, is just WRONG!!! It appears the Newfies STILL get it all wrong!!! I am deeply disappointed in the East Coasters! Well, it’s their funeral!

Also in a Minority Government an Election can be called early and the Governing party can lose power using a no confidence vote.

I would love to know how much lying, corruption and incompetence would be enough to make these died-in-the-wool Liberals rethink their vote. It’s astonishing, in view of Trudeau’s complete inadequacy as a political leader that these people are still giving him their vote. SMH

If Newfoundland and Labrador are like B.C. they might not have much choice. B.C. has a weak Conservative party and we must get rid of the NDP and the Greens so we have to vote Liberal provincially.

Ya wanna know why they went lib again. It’s all due to the raw sewage being dumped by kbek into the st Lawerence river that goes past. That’s about all I can think of, if anyone else has better idea I’d like to hear it.
