The amphibious assault ship USS Boxer destroyed the drone says US President.
US President Donald Trump says the amphibious assault ship USS Boxer has shot down an Iranian drone in the Strat of Hormuz.
The destruction of the drone is being described as “defensive action.”
Here’s what Trump said at a White House event:
“The Boxer took defensive action against an Iranian drone, which had closed into a very, very near distance, approximately 1000 yards, ignoring multiple calls to stand down and was threatening the safety of the ship and the ship’s crew. The drone was immediately destroyed.”
Trump added that the close proximity of the Iranian drone to the US ship was “the latest of many provocative and hostile actions against vessels operating in international waters.”
Trump added that the US “reserves [the] right to defend our personnel, our facilities, and interests and calls upon all nations to condemn Iran’s attempts to disrupt freedom of navigation and global commerce.”

The report of the drone being shot down comes shortly after Iran said they seized an oil tanker travelling through the Strait of Hormuz, as tension in the region continues to rise.
