Democrats in the US House of Representatives move closer to impeaching US President Trump, but conviction would almost certainly fail in the Senate if things got that far.
The already divided political scene in the US is going thermonuclear.
The Democrats have announced that they are launching an official impeachment inquiry, stemming from allegations that US President Donald Trump withheld aid from Ukraine in order to gain leverage that would encourage Ukraine to investigate former US Vice-President Joe Biden and Biden’s son.

Notably, Trump has said he will make the transcript – fully unredacted – public tomorrow.

With the Senate in Republican hands, Trump is unlikely to be removed from office, even if impeachment passed the House of Representatives.
