By 2027, the UK says all Huawei equipment will be removed.
In a big reversal, the UK has decided to ban Huawei from their 5G networks.
The move comes after UK PM Boris Johnson had come under pressure from the Conservative base in the UK, and from the United States and Allies. The U.S. has put sanctions on the Chinese Communist Party-controlled company, and had made clear that intelligence sharing would be at risk if Huawei 5G was allowed.
In addition to the 5G ban, the UK says all Huawei equipment must be removed from their telecom infrastructure by 2027.
The move will put further pressure on the Trudeau government, who now stand virtually alone among the 5 Eyes allies in not having yet clearly banned Huawei from 5G.
Polls also show a huge majority of Canadians want Huawei banned.
