Former Canadian Prime Minister John Turner Has Died At 91

Turner spent many years in government, before a short stint as PM in 1984.

Former Canadian PM John Turner has passed away at the age of 91.

Turner was a long-time Liberal cabinet minister, in both the justice and finance portfolios.

In 1984, Turner served as PM for 79 days, before losing the election to the Progressive Conservatives under Brian Mulroney.

Turner ran a stronger campaign in 1988, attempting to galvanize opposition to free trade as a winning message, but came up short, with the Conservatives winning a smaller but still substantial majority government.

Turner leaves behind his wife and four children.
