Canadian Forces Identifies Reservist Killed In Training Exercise

Corporal James Choi was from the Royal Westminster Regiment.

The Canadian Armed Forces have identified Corporal James Choi as the reservist who was killed in a live-fire training exercise in Alberta.

Choi was part of the Royal Westminster Regiment in New Westminster, BC.

He was 29-years-old.

On Twitter, Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan issued a statement following Choi’s death:

“A death in the @CanadianForces is felt by all members of the @nationaldefence team & all Canadians. I extend my deepest condolences to the family of Cpl James Choi & his colleagues in the Royal Westminster Regiment in these difficult times. We’ll be here for you in your grief.”

Conservative Leader Erin O’Toole also issued a statement:

“Today one of Canada’s heroes tragically lost their life in a training exercise in Wainwright, Alberta. My thoughts are with their family, friends and @CanadianForces colleagues as they mourn this loss.”

The Canadian Forces say the incident is under investigation.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Corporal Choi’s family, and we honour his service to our great nation.
