Researchers in both countries came to the conclusion independently.
As some countries in Europe resume use of the AstraZeneca vaccine, and as the Canadian government celebrates an upcoming shipment of 1.5 million AstraZeneca doses from the United States (where the vaccine has still not been approved for use on the American population), researchers in Norway and Germany have both independently found a link between the AstraZeneca vaccine and potentially deadly blood clots in the brain.
Here’s what the Wall Street Journal reported:
“Scientists in Europe said they had identified a mechanism that could lead the AstraZeneca PLC vaccine to cause potentially deadly blood clots in rare instances as well as a possible treatment for it.
Two teams of medical researchers in Norway and Germany have independently found that the vaccine could trigger an autoimmune reaction causing blood to clot in the brain, which would offer an explanation for isolated incidents across Europe in recent weeks.
Several European countries briefly halted their rollouts of the vaccine this week after more than 30 recipients were diagnosed with the condition known as cerebral venous sinus thrombosis, or CVST. Most of the people affected were women under the age of 55.”
Despite these findings, European health regulators deemed the risk acceptable:
“The issue affected a tiny portion of those who had received the shot, however, and after investigating, the European drugs regulator ruled that the benefits outweighed the potential risks of the vaccine, and recommended vaccinations resume.”
One of course can imagine how the family of those who die from those clots would feel, given they would have had a strong chance of surviving the virus itself – simply based on the percentages.
This latest finding, combined with the fact that the Trudeau government seems so desperate to get their hands on any vaccines for political purposes, will further damage confidence in government officials and bureaucracies who have repeatedly reversed themselves and played politics with the lives of Canadians and people around the world.
And, as if there was any doubt about the government putting political interests ahead of health, the federal government has still so far refused to update the guidance on the vaccine, not including the potential danger in warnings to Canadians.
