Dr. Shelley Deeks says there is “substantial uncertainty” regarding cases of the vaccine causing blood clots.
The Canadian National Health Advisory Committee is now officially recommending provinces cease administering the AstraZeneca vaccine to individuals under the age of 55, following reports that they were about to issue that advice.
The vice-chair of NACI said there was “substantial uncertainty” regarding cases of the AstraZeneca causing blood clots.
The US has not yet approved the AstraZeneca vaccine for use there, but the Trudeau government still sought shipments of the vaccine to Canada just the same.
The European Union health regulator has been unable to clearly rule-out a link between the vaccine and rare cases of blood clots.
Researchers in Norway and Germany both found a link.
In Canada, the NACI says there have been no cases of blood clots reported after 300,000 AstraZeneca shots being administered, but they are taking a “precautionary measure” by advising against its use on those under 55.
Most provinces have followed this advice, with the AstraZeneca vaccine still to be distributed among those 55 and older, where the risk of blood clots is not seen as a concern by authorities.
Considering that just two weeks ago the government said they had no concerns about AstraZeneca, this latest reversal is another in a long-line of what appears to be chaotic actions by those who really have zero idea what they are doing.
At least this time they are leaning towards caution, but this has been a gong show of incompetence overall.
