Power-Hungry Politicians & A Submissive Populace Have Turned Our Rights Into Easily-Revoked Privileges

Canadians must understand how important the distinction between rights & privileges is.

Time and time again, we’ve watched as a ‘return to normal’ is dangled in front of the populace, then pulled away the moment it’s about to take place.

I’ve written repeatedly about how those in power continuously move the goalposts, and clearly don’t actually want to give up their heightened level of control.

Whenever a new opportunity to spread fear comes up, politicians seize it immediately, ramp up the fear as much as they can, and then attempt to keep their expanded power in place regardless of the underlying reality.

We’ve witnessed this with the narrative around the ‘Omicron’ variant.

Initial discussion was about how ‘bad’ and ‘scary’ it was, and governments immediately pushed for more restrictions at the border, ramping up fear throughout society. Much of the populace obliged, falling into the pattern of feeling fear and then demanding government ‘do something.’

Ontario used the moment to indefinitely delay their re-opening plan:

“Ontario is extending its pause indefinitely on moving to the next step of the reopening plan as COVID-19 cases continue to increase.

On Nov. 15, capacity limits were supposed to be lifted in remaining high-risk settings where proof of vaccination is required.

That was delayed at least 28 days on Nov. 10 due to an increase in cases.

On Tuesday, the government announced the pause would continue in order to monitor trends in public health and learn more about the Omicron variant.

No date has been given for when lifting these restrictions will be reassessed.”

Justin Trudeau expanded the vaccine mandate:

“The Canadian government will expand its mandatory vaccination policy in early 2022 to include all federally regulated workplaces, including banks and the nation’s largest telecom firms.

Canada already requires all federal public sector workers to be vaccinated, as well as workers and travellers on airlines, trains and boats. That is now being expanded fully to all federally regulated businesses, Labour Minister Seamus O’Regan said in a statement on Tuesday.”

Omicron provided the ‘cover’ for politicians to do what they already wanted to do:

Keep restrictions in place, keep the populace in a state of fear, and continue to expand their power.

But of course, politicians like Justin Trudeau and Doug Ford seem to simply be ignoring the fact that the fear-mongering around ‘Omicron’ doesn’t seem at all justified:

“Early data indicates the Omicron Covid variant may more easily reinfect people who have already had the virus or been vaccinated than previous variants, but could also cause milder disease, the WHO said Wednesday.

“Emerging data from South Africa suggests increased risk of reinfection with Omicron,” World Health Organization chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told reporters, adding that “there is also some evidence that Omicron causes milder disease than Delta”.”

When you see a trend that moves in only one direction, rather than oscillating, then it’s not coincidence or chance, it’s about an agenda.

And the trend in Canada has been that the uncertainty generated by every new variant is exploited by politicians to grab more power and further delay a return to normal. When the fear proves to be unproven, there is no ratcheting back of the power grabs.

“Things get to terrible places one step at a time.”

In a clip from a while ago that is quite relevant to today, Dr. Jordan Peterson described the process to Joe Rogan:

This is exactly what has happened in Canada.

Since Canadians already had a reputation as ‘nice’ people, that niceness was easily exploited and shifted into weakness.

Canadians have been willing to make ‘small concession’ after ‘small concession,’ and all those concessions end up being quite large.

Consider that most Canadians have passively accepted that if a politician tells them their business is shut down then they have to shut it down. Most accept repeated lockdowns, or closures, or mandates, or reversals of policy, or rampant hypocrisy, and have an attitude of ‘just doing what we’re told.’

What makes this all the more galling is that we can look at other jurisdictions, including right across the border in the US, and see places where things have returned back to normal, with far fewer – and in many cases none – of the restrictions and mandates we see in Canada.

It’s like living in some sort of strange parallel world, where here in Canada we act as if civilization will collapse unless restrictions and mandates stay in place, while in other parts of the world life goes on much as it had before.

The more they fail, the more power they want

Canada’s leaders, both at the federal and provincial level, have also shown themselves to lack any sense of creativity or innovation.

They try to control the things they can’t control, and fail to improve the things they can.

For example, the idea of shutting the borders again, or re-imposing restrictions to stop a new variant has already failed, given that it is already in the country.

Meanwhile, where is the progress on increasing the capacity in our healthcare system?

We aren’t in the first few weeks of this, it’s now a year-and-a-half in.

Our governments have spent hundreds of billions of dollars.

Deficits are through the roof.

The size and the role of government has massively increased.

So, where are the results in our healthcare system?

Why does the system seem even more fragile now?

There are two possibilities, neither of them good.

Either many of our leaders want the healthcare system to remain weak so they can ‘justify’ further restrictions and power grabs, or they are truly so incompetent that they can’t manage to improve the system despite the massive amount of money and power at their disposal.

Most likely, it’s a combination of both.

And again, the Canadian People bear some responsibility as well, as many have gone along with the idea that restricting our rights to ‘save’ the healthcare system is legitimate. Many have failed to realize that that kind of trade-off means you don’t have rights at all.

If a politician can – on a whim – decide to shut down a business, tell you how many can gather in your home, and ban you from being able to travel or work unless you make the medical decision they demand, then you don’t have rights.

You have ‘privileges,’ privileges’ that exist based on whether a politician decides you should have them or not.

The difference between rights and privileges is vast, and many still haven’t woken up to how much has already been taken away from us, and how much more will be taken away in the future if the power-hungry statists have their way.
