For The Trudeau Government, Higher Gas Prices Are A Feature, Not A Bug

Most Canadians are unlikely to feel the same.

For Canadians, higher gas prices represent another hit to our finances.

By increasing transportation costs, surging gas prices mean people have less money available for anything else.

And of course, higher fuel prices push up the cost of food, clothing, and nearly everything else. Since companies must transport goods and find it more expensive to do so, they are left with no choice but to pass on that cost to consumers.

This pushes people into a binary choice:

Continue to drive and cut back on other expenses, or cut back on driving.

Both ‘choices’ represent a narrowing of financial freedom and personal freedom.

Why the Liberal government wants higher gas prices

Many Canadians still believe the government is ‘on their side’.

As a result, they feel the government must be ‘doing something’ to decrease gas prices.

After all, if higher gas prices hurt Canadians, and if the government is on our side, then surely the government wants those prices to go down too, right?

For those of us with a more critical view of the government, we can see the flaw in that thinking:

The government isn’t on our side.

Particularly, the Trudeau Liberal government actually wants higher gas prices.

They view it as a feature, not a bug.

Carbon taxes

As I’ve written previously, the carbon tax is a deliberate inflationary policy.

The whole point of the carbon tax is to make life more expensive, to extract more money from the Canadian People, and to alter consumer behaviour.

If everything is more expensive, people will consume less.

And, if people consume less, we will ‘save the world’.

That’s the thinking behind many policies of the Trudeau Liberal government.

Of course, Trudeau and his cronies won’t be the ones cutting back their consumption.

In their minds, living with less is for ‘regular people,’ not the elites.

With the carbon tax, the Liberal government is deliberately increasing prices, knowing this will make people poorer.

It’s no surprise then, that the carbon tax rebate for most Canadians doesn’t match the amount taken through the tax itself. The whole point of the carbon tax is to take more than is given back.

Liberal government is trying to push prices up even higher

Even with all the damage that inflation is doing to Canadians, the Liberals aren’t done trying to push gas prices up even higher.

With the carbon tax increase every year, the Liberals are seeking to lock-in higher fuel prices.

And, with upcoming regulations, the Liberals will also be pushing up the cost of home heating:

“Terrible. It’s going to get worse when the feds’ Clean Fuel Regulations come into effect later this year, particularly for people using oil to heat their homes. But it’s what the Trudeau gov’t wants — higher fuel prices to reduce consumption, even when there’s no alternative.”

The importance of awareness

As I mentioned earlier in this piece, many Canadians still feel the government wants lower gas prices.

Helping people become aware that the opposite is the case is essential.

If a critical mass of Canadians truly understood that the Liberal government is deliberately driving up their gas prices, then people would be more open to voting for politicians who want to bring those prices down.

The reality is that unless the Liberals are defeated, Canadians will continue to be subjected to a government that deliberately makes life more and more expensive.
