Given how the media bailout has turned the press into an extension of the government propaganda apparatus, why would the Liberals stop now?
The $595 million media bailout is going to expire in two years.
But now, as reported by Blacklock’s, the Liberals are planning to extend the bailout:
“Cabinet is committed to long term aid for money-losing news media, the Department of Canadian Heritage said yesterday. The department said it was unaware of impending newspaper closures amid an ongoing $595 million bailout set to expire in two years: “News businesses have seen their revenues significantly decline.””
Media dependent on government funding is government media
It’s no surprise to see that the Liberals are planning to extend the media bailout.
After all, media companies that depend on state funding inevitably begin to resemble state media itself.
The media knows that those bailouts likely wouldn’t continue under a Conservative government, so they have a direct financial incentive to keep the Liberals in power.
The Liberals have thus weaponized the financial struggles of the establishment press – struggles that exist because they’ve lost touch with their audience – and have forced Canadian taxpayers to subsidize the creation of what is essential a growing government propaganda apparatus under a different name.
Remember the secret bailout
As we know, many of the companies that received the media bailouts have been kept secret.
The government won’t tell us.
Those companies won’t tell us.
What that means is that even when you see an establishment media institution claim to be free of government influence, we have no way of actually being sure they aren’t secretly taking government money.
As a result, we have to look at their coverage to get a sense of what is really happening behind the scenes. And looking at that coverage would lead us to believe that nearly all of the establishment media is now completely beholden to the Trudeau Liberals.
Over and over again we see that the establishment is willing to spread false narratives to keep the Liberals in power, focusing their efforts on demonizing freedom-loving Canadians and attacking the Opposition, rather than holding the government accountable.
Unfortunately, we now have to assume that nearly all of the establishment press is nothing more than an extension of the Trudeau Liberal government propaganda apparatus.
And considering that, it’s no surprise the Liberals plan to extend the media bailout. It’s worked so well for them up to this point, enabling them to co-opt and corrupt the media, so why would they stop?
We can thus expect to see attacks against independent media and against the Opposition to continue escalating, as the establishment press desperately fights to keep the Liberals in power and keep the money flowing.
