Global News Wants More Taxpayer Money

Why does the establishment media feel entitled to financial survival?

When over 50,000 small businesses collapsed during government-imposed lockdowns and restrictions, the establishment press had little to say.

They didn’t defend those companies, and they didn’t denounce the governments that destroyed them.

Instead, they often demonized those companies, and promoted the propaganda line of the increasingly-authoritarian Liberal government.

As those in power claimed “we’re all in this together” even as they exempted themselves from the pain of Canadians, the establishment press gave them a free pass.

Millions of Canadians have now learned that the establishment media now works for the government, not for us.

As if to confirm that fact, Global News – who was gone all-in on unhinged attacks against CPC Leader Pierre Poilievre and his supporters – is now claiming to be ‘on the brink’ financially and wants more taxpayer dollars.

Here’s what was reported by Blacklock’s:

“.@globalnews “teeters on the brink”, exec VP Troy Reeb tells @SenateCA . Need “measures to support news.”

“We can no longer do this alone.”

“Global News is “on the brink,” an executive with the country’s number three television network yesterday told a Senate hearing. The assessment came despite millions in federal subsidies and a 38 percent profit margin in TV: “We can no longer do this alone.””

“We can no longer do this alone,” and needing “measures” to “support” the news is Global’s way of saying that since Canadians aren’t consuming enough of their content, they want the government to force you to give them your money.

Simply put, Global News feels entitled to financial survival, yet they were glad to stand by and watch other businesses collapse.

This arrogance and entitlement is made worse by the fact that Global News has been so hell-bent on destroying Pierre Poilievre and the Conservative Party. They have largely turned themselves into servants of the Trudeau Liberal government, and as this turns off viewers they now seek to become even more dependent on the government.

And for those who claim that broadcast money isn’t dependent on the state, remember that they have long-benefited from forced taxpayer funding:

“ICYMI – TV broadcasters received $104 million in direct federal subsidies through the pandemic, @CRTCeng disclosed August 23. Grants were in addition to waivers on millions in mandatory licensing fees.”

The fact is that media institutions like Global News stood back and watched as others lost their livelihoods, and there’s no reason Canadians should be forced to step in and prevent that from happening to Global News itself.

If they can’t compete in the market, then that is their problem, not ours.
