Danielle Smith Wins Alberta UCP Leadership Race

Smith will become the new Premier of Alberta.

Danielle Smith has won the United Conservative Party leadership race, and will become the new Premier of Alberta, replacing Jason Kenney.

Smith won with over 53% on the sixth ballot, over Travis Toews.

Smith led on every ballot.

Smith gained attention during the campaign for promoting the Alberta Sovereignty Act, with many praising her for having the guts to directly stand up to the divisive anti-energy, anti-West policies of the increasingly radical Trudeau government.

Smith has long been a staunch defender of economic liberty and individual freedoms, two values which are highly prized in Alberta, and which has placed the province at odds with the Neo-Communist leanings of the Trudeau Liberals.

Smith’s victory, following Pierre Poilievre’s dominant win in the federal Conservative Leadership race, demonstrates that a growing number of Canadians are done putting up with the anti-freedom policies of the Liberal-NDP socialists and are ready to fight back.
