Release Of New Audio Makes It Clear That Brenda Lucki Must Resign

Any doubt that she was pushing the partisan agenda of the Liberals has now been erased.

As the investigation into the Nova Scotia mass shooting got under way, RCMP Commissioner Brenda Lucki began facing significant criticism as it began to appear that she was trying to push the partisan agenda of the Liberal government on guns, rather than being a non-partisan public official.

That was a deep concern, given that the RCMP should not become a partisan tool of whomever is in power.

Officials had testified that they felt pressured by Lucki to release the models of the guns used in the mass shooting – even as she was warned that could compromise the investigation.

Lucki – and the Liberal government – denied any pressure existed.

Audio that would have attested to the existence of that pressure was ‘lost’.

But now, it has been recovered, and posted to the Mass Casualty Commission website.

I have included the link below (the key section begins around the 2:40 mark):

“Does anybody realize what’s going on in the world of handguns and guns right now?” says Lucki. “The fact that they’re in the middle of trying to get a legislation going. The fact that that legislation is supposed to actually help police,” she adds.

When listening, you can also get a sense of the manipulative style of Lucki’s ‘leadership.’

She talks about feeling disrespected by those who aren’t willing to go along with her effort to push a political agenda, and then passively aggressively asks if she is being “too sensitive.”

It certainly seems clear that Lucki was trying to use her status as RCMP Commissioner to advance the political agenda of the Trudeau government, and was pressuring those who wanted to instead keep the RCMP neutral and play by the book.

Another institution weakened by the Trudeau government

Trust in Canadian institutions has declined dramatically during the Liberals’ time in power.

They will of course claim this is because of the Opposition and because of people like us who ‘dare’ to question those institutions.

But in a healthy democracy, institutions that wield tremendous power are supposed to earn trust, not be given trust automatically.

Further, when a government repeatedly tries to co-opt institutions that are supposed to be neutral, that can only result in increased divisiveness and in a loss of trust in institutions by the Canadian People.

That loss of trust is now deepening, and the release of this latest audio will cause even more Canadians to see the RCMP as an increasingly partisan institution.

For that reason, Brenda Lucki must resign.

As the call demonstrates, there are still some very good people in the RCMP who want to uphold the neutrality of that institution, and they should be elevated to positions of power rather than being unduly pressured by a Commissioner who is more interested in playing politics than in doing the job of protecting Canadians.
