“Power to the people! Blue for $8/month”, said Musk.
Twitter will offer verified, blue checkmark status to all who subscribe to the Twitter Blue service.
The announcement was made by Twitter owner Elon Musk, who slammed the previous “lords & peasants system”.
Here is Musk’s full Twitter thread on the changes:
“Twitter’s current lords & peasants system for who has or doesn’t have a blue checkmark is bullshit.
Power to the people! Blue for $8/month.”

A smart move
This is a smart move by Musk, as it returns Twitter verification more to the original intent. Verification had morphed into a status-symbol given out to those who were connected to establishment media organizations or other institutions.
Meanwhile, bots had proliferated on the platform.
Now, verification will be more widely available, and bot activity should be significantly curtailed, which is a big step in the right direction for Twitter.
Yes, this will destroy the bots. If a paid Blue account engages in spam/scam, that account will be suspended.
Essentially, this raises the cost of crime on Twitter by several orders of magnitude.
