Jagmeet Singh Says “Liberal & Conservative Governments Have Rigged The System”, So Why Is He Propping Up The Liberals In Parliament?

Singh’s remarks are completely divorced from reality.

Jagmeet Singh’s public statements often seem as if they are emanating from some sort of alternate reality in which the NDP is actually an opposition party, rather than a party that is propping up the Liberals in Parliament.

Singh has turned the NDP into a subsidiary of the Liberals, voting for all the key aspects of the Liberal agenda, and offering criticism that never goes anywhere.

The Singh-led NDP spends much of their time criticizing the Conservatives, again doing the bidding of the Liberals.

And yet, Singh still somehow seems to think he’s leading some sort of principled opposition party.

Just look at this recent Tweet:

“Decades of Liberal and Conservative govts have rigged the system and favoured the ultra-rich over Cdns.

Now, Justin Trudeau has chosen SNC Lavalin’s lawyer to lead this project.

Another example of the Liberals ignoring the needs of working people to reward their rich friends.”

If Singh really believes this, then why does he have a deal to keep the Liberals in power until 2025?

Why did he support the Liberals on the Emergencies Act?

Why did he say that even if the Inquiry finds the Liberals wrongly invoked the Act, he would still keep them in power?

Why did he vote against removing the carbon tax from food production, at a time when Canadians need financial relief?

If Singh thinks the Liberals & Conservatives have both rigged the system, shouldn’t he be vigorously campaigning against both parties and trying to defeat both of them, rather than propping up the Liberals?

Taken on the most objective appraisal of the facts, it seems as if Singh is doing everything possible to keep the Liberals in power, keep the Conservatives out of power, and keep the NDP just relevant enough so his own base and MPs don’t turn on him.

Whatever we call that, it’s certainly not an opposition party.
