There’s Nothing ‘Just’ About The So-Called ‘Just Transition’

To really improve the environment and weaken the power of dictatorial regimes, we should be encouraging and supporting a massive expansion of the energy sector in Alberta and across the country.

Many Canadians still see the Liberals as a ‘centrist’ and ‘moderate’ party.

Their political brand obscures the fact that they are an increasingly far-left party.

Nowhere is that more obvious than with environment minister Steven Guilbeault, who is a far-left individual who would be more at home in the Green Party.

But, Guilbeault wouldn’t be in that job if Trudeau didn’t want him there, and Trudeau is nearly as radical as Guilbeault on many environmental issues.

Both Trudeau & Guilbeault have a deeply emotional and irrational way of thinking about things, leading to absurd and damaging policies that make our nation poorer, deepen national divisions, and empower our geopolitical foes.

No such thing as a ‘just’ transition

The so-called ‘just transition’ that the Liberal government is pushing isn’t ‘just’ at all.

Rather, it will destroy the livelihoods of countless hard-working Canadians and push Alberta and the West into further alienation from Canada.

It will also make the environment worse, since less production in Alberta – where environment standards are high and reclamation projects are well-funded – means more production in countries like Saudi Arabia & Russia, where standards are much lower.

Further, If Alberta isn’t producing more oil and gas, that means more profit will go to countries led by ruthless authoritarian regimes.

We’ve already seen the danger of that in Russia, where European dependence on Russian energy meant money poured into Russia’s coffers, which Russia used to fund a large military build-up and attack against Ukraine.

There’s no ideal world, only reality

History shows that utopian thinking leads to dystopian results.

Trying to create a ‘perfect’ or ‘ideal’ world is impossible and counterproductive, since people are imperfect, and since leading a country often requires choosing between many suboptimal outcomes.

If Guilbeault and Trudeau really believe they are ‘saving the planet,’ then they are ignoring all the evidence that shows otherwise, and they are letting their radical ideological perspective stand in the way of reality.

Thankfully, Alberta has a strong Premier who is taking a stand against the so-called ‘just transition’:

In a recent interview, Alberta Premier Danielle Smith said the following:

“We are not going to be shutting down our oil and natural gas industry. We are not going to be transitioning our workers, who are in good, high-paying meaningful, important jobs, into installing solar panels, which is the idiocy (federal Green Party Leader) Elizabeth May was first proposing when this kind of thing came out.”

The Alberta energy sector is a blessing for our country, providing energy security and wealth that is desperately needed at a time of economic strife.

All Canadians should be standing together in support of Alberta, and we should call out politicians like Guilbeault & Trudeau who try to impose their damaging, radical and unjust ideology.
