The Liberal ‘Climate Plan’ Is Really A High Tax Plan That’s Hurting Canadians

Government officials know that weakening our energy sector and imposing an ever-increasing carbon tax on Canadians will only make our nation worse-off without helping the environment.

Trailing in the polls and on the defensive, the Liberals are pivoting to a new attack against Pierre Poilievre.

Multiple Liberal MPs and cabinet ministers have been Tweeting out attacks on the Conservatives, claiming that he has ‘no plan’ for anything, and contrasting it with Liberal ‘plans.’

Here’s what Natural Resources Minister Jonathan Wilkinson said:

“One year later – still no climate plan.

Which means no economic plan.

While the federal government is planning for the future, Mr. Poilievre is just hoping for the best.”

Notice how the Liberals are still pushing the idea that Canada is a key driver of climate change.

It’s a talking point for them, and one they love to use.

But deep down, they know it’s BS.

They’ve surely all read the charts showing that Canada is – at most 2% of global emissions.

They also surely know that most developed countries – including Canada and the U.S. – have had declining overall emissions for quite a while, and significant per-capita emission declines.

They keep trying to get blood out of a stone by demanding more sacrifice from people in the developed world, when ongoing emission increases are concentrated in countries like China.

China’s recent expansion of coal power has completely undone all of Canada’s ‘climate action.’

So, the Liberal ‘climate plan’ isn’t a climate plan at all, since it doesn’t make a difference to the global climate.

Where it does make a difference – a negative one – is here at home where it makes life more expensive and weakens our energy sector.

In reality, it’s a high-tax plan that is hurting Canadians:

At a time when many Canadians are struggling financially, the carbon tax goes up and up and up, further pushing affordability out of reach.

The anti-energy sector policies have led to Canada missing out on tens of billions of dollars worth of energy sector projects, depriving us of money that could have gone towards rebuilding our moribund armed forces, strengthening our infrastructure, cutting taxes, and improving our crumbling healthcare system.

With all of that in mind, Canadians should be quite happy that Pierre Poilievre isn’t copying the Liberal tax plan.

Sometimes, the best thing a government can do is get out of the way, and Canadians would be far better off if the government stepped back, repealed the carbon tax, and let the energy sector flourish again.
