WATCH: Michael Chong Slams Liberal Government For Failing To Protect Canada’s National Security

The Liberals have “failed to counter foreign interference, failed to stop funding of Beijing’s military research, failed to upgrade NORAD’s early-warning system, and failed to acquire modern fighter jets,” said the Conservative Foreign Affairs Critic.

Partisanship has benefits and drawbacks.

The benefit is that grouping MPs into separate parties, and having those parties offer competing platforms and worldviews gives voters a choice of what kind of policies the nation should pursue. While rampant division is a serious problem, the system needs disagreement and competition. After all, if everyone agreed there would be no democracy.

One of the drawbacks however is that talent can languish on the Opposition benches, while incompetent individuals hold positions of power within the government. Partisanship exacerbates that problem, as politicians like Justin Trudeau would rather surround themselves with cronies who will do their bidding rather than people with integrity and competence.

We all saw what happened to people like Jody Wilson-Raybould – pushed out for having a sense of ethics.

And now, with the world becoming more dangerous and our country requiring much more serious leadership, we are stuck with Justin Trudeau.

Many of those who remain in the Liberal cabinet are there because they will shamelessly demonize their opponents and push Trudeau’s partisan agenda.

So, when you see an exchange like the one below – between the highly competent Michael Chong and the ‘less than competent’ Marco Mendicino – it’s enough to make you at least temporarily lament the way partisanship elevates some.

In the video below, Chong – the CPC Foreign Affairs Critic – accurately details the ways in which the Liberal government has failed to protect Canada’s national security. The response he gets from Marco Mendicino doesn’t exactly inspire confidence:

““The violations of our airspace sovereignty over the last couple of weeks should be a wake-up call.” Conservative MP @MichaelChongMP blames the Trudeau government for failing to protect Canadians from foreign interference.”

Canada would be much better off at the present moment if Pierre Poilievre was the Prime Minister, Michael Chong was the Foreign Affairs Minister, and Marco Mendicino had no position of power at all.

Our country is paying a heavy price for having a government that places short-term partisan political interest above defending the national security of our Citizens.
