Survey: Two-Thirds Of Canadians Say China Tried To Interfere In Canada’s Democracy

A majority of voters in all the main parties believe China tried to interfere, deepening the political isolation facing Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

As the Prime Minister continues to deflect calls for a public inquiry into allegations China tried to interfere in Canadian elections, a new survey shows Justin Trudeau becoming more politically isolated.

According to a new Angus Reid survey, 65% of Canadians believe China tried to interfere in Canadian elections.

32% ‘definitely’ believe China tried to interfere, while 33% believe China ‘probably’ tried to interfere.

17% say China ‘maybe’ tried to interfere.

11% say they are ‘not sure,’ or ‘can’t say’.

Just 6% say ‘no not at all.’

Thus, the number of Canadians who believe China tried to interfere outnumbers those who think China didn’t try to interfere by a more than 10 to 1 ratio.

Trudeau’s growing political isolation

As Prime Minister Justin Trudeau continues to resist calls for a public inquiry, he his increasingly isolated.

77% of Conservatives, and 63% of Liberals believe China interfered, as do 57% of NDP voters and 70% of Bloc voters.

Trudeau is thus at odds even with his own supporters, meaning he will continue to face more pressure to call an inquiry.

Clearly, this scandal isn’t going away.
