Germany May Ban Huawei From Sections Of 5G Network – Report

ZTE may also face restrictions, with views towards China hardening in Europe’s largest economy.

For many years, Germany sought closer economic ties with both Russia and China.

Germany’s relationship with Russia collapsed following Putin’s brutal invasion of Ukraine, and Germany has since largely weaned itself off dependence on Russian energy and provided support to Ukraine – including tanks.

Now, it appears Germany’s views towards China are also hardening.

According to a report, Germany may ban Chinese firms Huawei and ZTE from their 5G networks.

Citing national security, Germany’s concerns stem around the fact that Huawei and ZTE can be seen as controlled by the Chinese government, due to the absence of any real separation between the corporate sector and the power of the Chinese Communist Party.

As a result, components from Huawei and ZTE could be banned from the 5G networks, and existing Huawei/ZTE components could be removed.

A spokesperson for the Chinese Communist government criticized the potential move:

“In recent years, countries and anti-China forces have continued to attempt to smear Huawei with trumped-up charges, but there has never been any evidence that Huawei equipment and components pose security risks,” the spokesperson said, according to a Google translation.

“If the report is true, the Chinese side is very puzzled and strongly dissatisfied with the hasty decision made by the relevant German government department without factual basis.”

While China always criticizes governments who take action protect their national security from China, the Communist state never addresses the core problem: Every ‘private’ company in China is effectively an arm of the Chinese Communist Party and is unable to refuse government orders.

China pursues a policy called ‘civil-military-fusion,’ where the consumer sector and military sector are largely one in the same, and all subordinate to the CCP. The idea was first implemented by Mao Zedong, and has been expanded during the rule of Xi Jinping.

In that context, allowing Huawei & ZTE to be a significant part of a 5G network is a big risk, one that fewer and fewer Western nations are willing to take.
