Liberals Fall Below 30% In National Poll

The Conservatives have a 5 point lead.

A new Nanos poll shows the Conservatives with a 5 point lead nationwide.

The most notable aspect of the poll is the fact that the Liberals are down to just 28% nationwide:

“Federal Polling:

CPC: 33% (-1)
LPC: 28% (-5)
NDP: 21% (+3)
BQ: 9% (+1)
GPC: 5% (+3)
PPC: 4% (-1)

(% Change With 2021 Federal Election)”

That is a full five points below their 2021 election performance. And their 2021 election performance was itself the worst popular vote performance in Canadian history for a party that won the most seats.

In fact, the Liberals have only won the popular vote in one election (2015), since 2004.

The same poll also showed Pierre Poilievre and Justin Trudeau tied on the question of who would be the best Prime Minister:

“Preferred Prime Minister Polling:

Trudeau: 27% (-1)
Poilievre: 27% (-)
Singh: 16% (-)
Blanchet: 6% (+1)
May: 4% (-)
Bernier: 3% (-)

Unsure: 17%

Nanos Research / March 10, 2023 / n=1000 / MOE 3.1% / Telephone

(% Change With March 3, 2023)”

These results are concerning for the Liberals, as the incumbent PM usually has a built-in advantage on that question simply by already holding the office.

With Trudeau under 30% on the best PM question, and the Liberals under 30% nationwide, it would seem their refusal to hold an inquiry into China’s election interference is starting to have an impact on public opinion.
