Johnston was once widely respected, but he shattered his own credibility by doing Justin Trudeau’s bidding.
David Johnston is out as ‘Special Rapporteur’.
In a statement, Johnston cited the “partisan atmosphere” as the reason for his decision to step aside. You can read his statement below:
Johnston was used by Trudeau, but also complicit
Obviously, David Johnston was used by Justin Trudeau. Trudeau tried to hide behind Johnston as he avoided a public inquiry and sought to end discussion of China’s interference in our country.
However, Johnston was more than willing to along with it.
His own connections to China, the Trudeau Foundation, and Justin Trudeau himself made him seem totally complicit in Trudeau’s attempt to avoid a real investigation and make the whole issue go away.
As a result, while Johnston suffered the loss of his reputation and credibility by doing Justin Trudeau’s bidding, he made that choice himself and he is responsible for the consequences.
