Hamas is a genocidal terrorist organization that wants another Holocaust. Anyone calling for a ceasefire now is making it clear they think Hamas should be allowed to butcher as many Jewish People as possible without repercussions. It’s shameful and disgusting.
Israel has the right to defend itself.
It’s absolutely true, and it’s something we’ve heard time and time again across the world, including from the government of Canada.
Yet, it appears there are Canadian MPs who don’t agree.
33 MPs, including over 20 Liberal MPs, have signed a disgraceful and shameful letter calling for the Canadian government to push for a ceasefire between Israel – a democratic nation – and Hamas – a genocidal terrorist organization.
You can read the letter, and the list of signatories, below:
“This letter signed by 33 MPs, incl. many of my former Liberal colleagues, lays bare my longstanding concerns over the alarming anti-Israel bias I have witnessed permeating certain cliques w/ in the Liberal caucus. Their DEMAND for “an immediate ceasefire” (a break from ’s stated policy) which falsely lays the blame on Israel and the “occupation”, says it all, absolving Hamas of its ongoing war crimes which impact both Israeli and Palestinian civilians, and denying the right to defend its people.”
Former Liberal MP Michael Levitt – who is now the President & CEO of the Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center – slammed his former colleagues who signed the letter:

Current Liberal MP Anthony Housefather also pushed back against ceasefire calls, by noting that Israel is facing a violent terrorist group:
“Israel neighbours a territory controlled by a terrorist group that calls for its destruction. Hamas has shown it is willing to brutally murder Israeli civilians. Israel has the right to defend itself while respecting international law.”

Sadly, few Liberal MPs have been willing to support or echo the principled stance taken by Housefather and Levitt.
Conservatives show leadership
While Green, Liberal, and NDP MPs signed the pathetic letter, not one Conservative MP signed it. The Conservatives under Pierre Poilievre continue to be the party that is truly standing with Israel and truly understands Israel’s right to defend itself:
“Not only did NO members of @CPC_HQ sign the disgraceful Parliamentary letter calling for an Israeli ceasefire but at last week’s antisemitism conference no caucus had greater representation. This is just a small illustration of those who turned out. No division here.”

Doing the bidding of Hamas
Let’s make this absolutely clear.
All the MPs signing this letter are – wittingly or not – doing the bidding of Hamas. A ceasefire now means Hamas is allowed to initiate horrific terror attacks against Israel, and then make sure Israel is prevented from responding.
This would incentivize further attacks by Hamas, because it would leave the Hamas power structure in place, would stop Israel from dismantling Hamas’s tunnels and destroying Hamas’ weapons, and would send a message that even the most horrific acts of mass rape, mutilation, torture, and beheadings, would result in a limited response that would leave the terrorists alive to strike again.
Hamas would benefit from a ceasefire, while Israel would be harmed by a ceasefire. MPs who signed the letter are thus choosing to stand with Hamas.
And when they stand with Hamas – this is what they are standing with:
“A baby was cut out of a pregnant woman and beheaded and then the mother was beheaded.”
“Mass rape so brutal that they broke their victims’ pelvis – women, grandmothers, children.”
“We have babies with their heads cut off. Bodies without hands, without legs, without genitals.”

Second, all the MPs who signed the letter are – regardless of what they say – making it clear that they don’t believe Israel has a right to defend itself. After all, if Israel can’t respond following the largest mass murder of Jewish People since the Holocaust, then when could they respond?
Thus, people could reasonable feel and conclude that those singing the letter are either anti-Semitic, or willing to indulge the worst anti-Semites in society for political gain.
It’s absolutely disgusting, and all the disgraceful letter signers have no business being elected to anything ever again in this country.
