The move aligns Canada with the United States.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced Canada will impose new tariffs on China.
The tariffs will be imposed on Chinese-made electric vehicles, steel, and aluminum.
Chinese EVs will be hit with a 100% tariff, while Chinese-made steel and aluminum will be hit with 25% tariffs.

The move aligns Canada with the United States and represents a response to China’s deliberate strategy of using massive subsidies to overproduce EVs, steel, and aluminum and then dump those products on other countries in an attempt to decimate our industrial base.
That’s why this is a wise move, especially when viewed through the lens of national security. Because we are in a new Cold War, we simply cannot allow our industrial base to wither away, and we certainly cannot allow China to dominate key industries.
With that being said, it is notable that just last week, Justin Trudeau was mocking Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre for proposing identical tariff measures.
Time and time again, the few good decisions made by the Liberal government are ideas they’ve pilfered from Poilievre.
