It’s tempting to think external threats will disappear if we ignore them. Alas, that is not the case.
I wanted to draw your attention to a quote shared by Alex Plitsas on Twitter, which sums up the need to resist isolationist sentiment no matter how tempting that sentiment may be:
“Every time I read an argument advocating for isolationism in the face of violent fascist imperialism, it reminds me of this quote:
“The price good men pay for indifference to public affairs is to be ruled by evil men.” – Plato, “The Republic””

From here in North America, we can’t stop China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea from preparing for war. What we can do is decide to prepare ourselves.
Hoping the threat magically goes away won’t work. If we don’t build up our own defences, and if we abandon countries like Ukraine and Israel who are fighting for their lives, then the world will be dominated by authoritarian states and all of humanity will be diminished.
