Global News says the role will be with the Liberal Party itself, not the government.
Mark Carney – seen by many as a potential successor to Justin Trudeau – is set to join the Liberal Party in an official role.
Here’s what Global said:
“Carney is not believed to be joining the Prime Minister’s Office, the Privy Council Office, or Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland’s office. Instead, the role is with the party itself.
The appointment comes with the blessing of Freeland who has long called Carney a close friend.”
The move is likely a way to start building Carney’s credibility with Liberal partisans, while boosting Trudeau’s image on the economy. But with Canada’s per capita GDP continuing to decline, and with Trudeau’s brand already about as bad as it gets, Carney could very well weaken his own credibility by associating himself with this government.
