POLL: 64% Say Canada Is On The Wrong Track

55% expressed disapproval of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

According to a new Morning Consult poll, 64% of Canadians say the country is on the wrong track.

36% say the country is on the right track.

August 13, 2021 was the last day in which the Morning Consult survey found a majority feeling Canada was on the right track. On that day 51% expressed that view, while 49% said the country was on the wrong track.

Since then, perceptions have turned decidedly negative.

The same poll assessed Canadians views of the Prime Minister.

55% said they disapproved of Trudeau, while 39% said they approved.

That gives Trudeau a net -16 approval rating.

August 23, 2021 is the last day on which the Morning Consult poll showed Trudeau with a net positive approval rating. Then, 48% approved while 46% disapproved. Trudeau’s approval has since followed a similar downward trajectory as the ‘right track/wrong track’ numbers.

Notably, the recent Morning Consult poll was conducted on February 28, 2023, before even more revelations emerged regarding China’s interference in Canada’s democratic institutions. It will be interesting to assess what impact those revelations have in upcoming public opinion surveys.
