On his way out, NDP MP Charlie Angus reveals who he really is. And it’s not a pretty picture.
A while back, NDP MP Charlie Angus announced he would not be seeking re-election, thus bringing his long tenure in Parliament to an end.
Until recently, Angus was widely-respected, even by many on the right of the political spectrum who saw him as a somewhat reasonable representative of the NDP’s traditional working-class base.
No longer.
Since Hamas’s horrific October 7th, 2023 terror attack on Israel, Angus has been one of the key voices within the NDP seeking to push the party to pander to anti-Israel, anti-Western, and anti-Canadian radicals.
And now, Angus has gone fully ‘mask off’.
On Twitter, Angus unleashed a rant about the ‘Israeli lobby’, claiming
Here is Angus’ Tweet:
Keep in mind for a moment that Canada is currently facing a multi-pronged foreign interference crisis.
The countries involved in that crisis are China, Russia, India, and Iran.
Not Israel.
There are no allegations of foreign interference from Israel.
So, for Angus to even say Israel is involved in foreign interference in Canada is pushing it.
But that’s not all he said.
He said “nothing matches” foreign interference from Israel.
To make matters worse, the article Angus referenced in his Tweet was written by a Canadian and was simply an analysis of how the Conservatives are more supportive of the Jewish community and Israel than the Liberals are.
To claim that such an article is about foreign interference is crazy.
Of course, we can see what’s going on here.
Angus is trying to feed into ‘Jewish lobby’ conspiracy theories – the kinds of conspiracy theories that are foundational to the hateful worldview of antisemites.
And when seen in the context of his effort to push the NDP in a radical anti-Israel direction (something NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh has been glad to go along with), it’s obvious that Angus is now revealing who he really is.
As Conservative Deputy Leader Melissa Lantsman put it, Angus is “leaving Canadian politics a hateful & vile antisemitic clown.”
And Angus has wrecked his reputation in the process:
The unfortunate reality is that while Angus may be leaving politics, he has achieved his goal of pushing the NDP in a very disturbing direction.
And that’s why Canadians must reject the antisemitism and extremism of the NDP in the next election. Canadians must stand with the Jewish community, and we can do so at the ballot box by ensuring the NDP and Liberals are defeated.
