Justin Trudeau Continues To Use Communist China’s Talking Points To Deflect Calls For A Foreign Agent Registry

Why is Trudeau so set against implementing a measure used by most of our allies to defend against Communist China’s influence?

On July 11, 2023, the United Kingdom became the latest of Canada’s allies to implement a Foreign Agent Registry. The United States and Australia already have Foreign Agent Registries. In their current form, Foreign Agent Registries require individuals engaged in political activities on behalf of a foreign government to make their efforts known.

The United States has had a Foreign Agent Registry for quite a long time, with theirs coming into force in 1938 as efforts by the fascists and communists to undermine democratic capitalist nations intensified. Canada and our allies face a similar threat today, with countries like China and Russia seeking to weaken democratic institutions in Canada, the United States, the U.K., Australia, and other allied nations.

This is a threat that must be confronted if we are to preserve our rights and freedoms, and a foreign agent registry is one way to enhance that protection. And yet, when Justin Trudeau was asked why Canada continues to delay implementing such a measure, he responded with talking points that seem lifted from the propaganda handbook of the Chinese Communist Party:

“Watch Justin Trudeau attempt to answer a question on why his government hasn’t yet enacted a foreign agent registry law in Canada, unlike our allies:

As noted by Senator Leo Housakos, Trudeau responds the same way China does:

““It’s complicated” is the same ridiculous line they’ve been using ever since I introduced my bill calling for a registry almost 2 years ago. He also manages to throw in additional talking points from Beijing. Absolutely disgraceful. #S237 #FARA #FIRA”

The tactic used by Trudeau and other Liberals in the past of linking a modern Foreign Agent Registry to unrelated actions in the past has been denounced by many, including members of the Chinese-Canadian community:

“Conflating a foreign agent registry with a prejudiced law is reminiscent of how the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) often responds to outside criticism, said Cheuk Kwan of the Toronto Association for Democracy in China.

“This is straight out of the CCP’s playbook, using racism as a deflection from the proper issue at hand,” he said in an email interview. “It’s downright offensive.””

Canadians need to know that not only is the Prime Minister slow-walking every effort to protect Canada from Communist China’s influence, he’s using Communist China’s propaganda techniques to do so.
