Attack took place at around 12:35 am Monday.
Another appalling anti-Semitic incident has occurred in Canada.
Around 12:35 am Monday, the Jewish Community Council of Montreal building was attacked with a Molotov Cocktail.
Below you can read the statement issued by JCC Montreal:
“November 27, 2023
Dear Members of the Montreal Jewish Community,
At approximately 12:35 a.m. a Molotov cocktail was thrown into the entrance way of the Jewish Community Council of Montreal. Thank G-d, no one was present, and minimal damage occurred. The rise in antisemitism in our City is frightening, and the repeated violence and attacks on our community are abhorrent and condemned in the strongest terms.
We are immensely grateful for the rapid and professional response of the SPVM and Montreal Fire Department. We hope for the swift apprehension of whomever is responsible for this unwarranted and hateful act.
Since the terrorist attack on Israel on October 7 we have been meeting with officials of the Government of Canada and the Government of Quebec calling for increased funding to ensure the safety and security of our community and of our institutions, big and small. We reiterate our belief that more funding is required.
With prayers for peace and safety for all,
Rabbi Saul Emanuel
Executive Director,
JCC Montreal”
As noted by Member of Parliament Anthony Housefather, he and another MP had met with Jewish community leaders earlier in the evening:
“A Molotov cocktail. This is the building @RachelBendayan and I and multiple Jewish community leaders were meeting in last night. And this came soon after we posted that we met. Strength to @jcc_montreal & its staff & I am asking police to investigate this quickly & seriously.”

Ce matin, j'ai visité le @jcc_montreal, victime d’un cocktail Molotov, afin d’exprimer mon soutien face à cette montée de la violence et de l'intolérance antisémites. This gives the indication that not only was the attack obviously targeted against the Jewish community, but the attacker or attackers may have been trying to hurt elected officials and community leaders just because they were Jewish.
Whatever the case may be, this is clearly a disgusting act, and it is another example of how anti-Semitism is spreading out of control in this country.
