“Canadians Should Avoid All Cruise Ship Travel” Says Government

Cruise ships have been the center of a many large outbreaks.

The Canadian government is advising Canadians to avoid all cruise ship travel.

The advice was given by Dr. Theresa Tam, Canada’s Chief Public Health Officer.

“Today, the Public Health Agency of Canada is recommending that Canadians avoid all cruise ship travel due to COVID-19. The virus can spread quickly on cruise ships due to the close contact between passengers.”

As noted in reports, some have questioned why – despite huge outbreaks on cruise ships for weeks – the government is only now making the recommendation.

That said, the recommendation is a good one. Cruise ships have become breeding grounds for the Coronavirus, and it’s simply not worth it to take the risk and go on a cruise.

Currently, 235 Canadians are on board the Grand Princess, and are set to be repatriated and quarantined. So far, 21 people on the cruise ship have tested positive for the Coronavirus.
