Resignation comes after report into the work environment under her leadership.
Trudeau-appointed Governor General Julie Payette, along with her secretary Assunta Di Lorenzo, will be resigning from their posts.
The resignation takes place after an independent review into allegations that Payette had been mistreating workers at Rideau Hall.
Payette’s resignation means Richard Wagner, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, will become the acting Governor General.
Payette’s time as GG had been marred by allegations of overspending, vanity, and what some felt was her misunderstanding the role.
Some have noted that the Trudeau government appeared to skip many of the usual processes for vetting a GG candidate, instead focusing on Payette’s perceived star power rather than her suitability for the role.
