WATCH: Poilievre & Freeland Face Off In Question Period

Conservative finance critic warns “you can’t buy economic growth on a credit card.”

Amid mounting concerns that Canadians will face higher interest rates – a devastating possibility given the rampant indebtedness and low growth in this country at all levels – Conservative finance critic Pierre Poilievre and Canadian finance minister Chrystia Freeland faced off in Question Period.

Poilievre noted that – even before the virus crisis – Canada was experiencing no actual per capita GDP growth, and that growth in the past five years has been weaker than any time since the Great Depression.

In response, Freeland cited recent economic data, including GDP growth in the past month and quarterly growth.
