China’s Show Trial For Michael Spavor Already Over, No Verdict Announced

It was only two hours.

The show trial of arbitrarily detained Canadian Michael Spavor is already over.

It lasted only two hours.

According to James Zimmerman from the law firm Perkins Coie, no verdict was announced.

Spavor was tried on espionage charges, but neither Canadian officials nor the media were allowed to see the proceedings.

A verdict will be announced at a later date according to Chinese authorities, who did not specify when that would be.

The show trial for Michael Kovrig will begin on Monday.

China’s judicial system – which is controlled by the Chinese Communist Party – has a conviction rate of over 99%.
