CSIS Warns Of “Strategic Threat” Posed By The Chinese Communist Party

The CCP “uses all the state powers at its disposal to carry out activities that directly threaten the national security and sovereignty of the country.”

With a whistleblower speaking out in the Globe & Mail regarding China’s interference attempts – and the lack of action taken by the federal government, CSIS continues to warn the public about interference in our democratic institutions. Ongoing Tweets and statements from CSIS have been ‘interesting,’ to say the least, as it seems that the Canadian national security apparatus is trying to protect Canadians from China’s actions while having those efforts resisted by upper echelons of the Liberal government.

Notably, CSIS recently issued a statement to CBC/Radio Canada, explaining that the Chinese Communist Party poses the “greatest strategic threat” to Canada. CSIS noted that the issue isn’t the “Chinese population.” Instead, the danger is posed by the Chinese Communist Party. The CCP is “is deploying a strategy aimed at “geopolitical gains” on economic, technological, political and military fronts. “To do so, it uses all the state powers at its disposal to carry out activities that directly threaten the national security and sovereignty of the country,” said the unnamed spokesperson.”

While the statement doesn’t contain much that is unknown, the fact that it was issued is itself interesting. Clearly, elements within the national security apparatus are not going to put up with governmetn inaction when it comes to protecting Canada from China’s foreign influence efforts, and will continue to speak out and push back.
