The PM has contempt for ethics, and contempt for the Canadian People.
Earlier this week, I reported on the Trudeau government appointing Liberal Minister Dominic LeBlanc’s sister-in-law as interim ethics commissioner:
“The Liberals have appointed Martine Richard – the sister of LeBlanc’s wife Jolene Richard – to the interim role.
Dominic LeBlanc is the current Intergovernmental Affairs Minister. In 2018, he was found guilty of an ethics violation when he was the Fisheries Minister. While in that role, LeBlanc awarded a lucrative contract to a company connected to the cousin of his wife.
It would seem LeBlanc likes to keep things in the family.”
The appointment has generated significant backlash, as the potential conflict-of-interest is so blatant and so obvious.
And yet, Justin Trudeau is doubling-down on the move.
Speaking to reporters, Trudeau said the following:
“It’s important to understand that the interim ethics commissioner has been a senior official in the Ethics Commissioner’s Office for over 10 years now, first started under Stephen Harper, and has done excellent work under the previous ethics commissioner. If there’s any office in the country that understands how to manage conflicts of interest and ethical perception issues, it is that office there that has always done exceptional work at ensuring the confidence of Canadians. From the very beginning, there were already measures in place to ensure that the work is done professionally and without conflicts, given the connections.”‘
The fact that Trudeau thinks Canadians will buy this BS demonstrates how much contempt he has for us.
To try and hide behind Martine Richard having worked in the Ethics Commissioner’s Office under Harper is to completely miss the point. Richard wasn’t related to sitting Conservative Ministers, and thus there was no potential conflict.
Furthermore, since the perception of a conflict is almost as important as there being a conflict itself, Trudeau is ignoring the severe perceptual problem here.
Belief and trust in Canadian institutions is crumbling, in large part because Justin Trudeau and his cronies have sought to co-opt and corrupt nearly every institution in this nation and entrench limitless Liberal bias into the entire structure of our nation.
Trudeau’s assault on our institutions continues, and by doubling-down on the appointment of Dominic LeBlanc’s sister-in-law he has ensure that the Ethics Commissioner’s office will lose further credibility. It seems there’s nothing in this country that Justin Trudeau isn’t determined to wreck.
