A member of the Canadian Armed Forces is missing in Latvia. Here’s what the Department of National Defence said in a statement:
“A Canadian Armed Forces member deployed on Operation REASSURANCE in Latvia has been reported missing since September 2, 2025, with investigation and search efforts ongoing.
“Warrant Officer George Hohl, a Vehicle Technician from 408 Tactical Helicopter Squadron based in Edmonton, Alberta, is deployed as part of the Aviation Battalion under the NATO Multinational Brigade – Latvia.
“Warrant Officer Hohl was last seen in Ādaži, Latvia. Latvian Police forces are leading the investigation with support from the Canadian Forces Military Police and the NATO Multinational Brigade, which are actively conducting search operations using all available resources.
“Warrant Hohl’s next of kin has been notified and are being provided with support. Out of respect for the family’s privacy and to protect the integrity of the police investigation and ongoing search efforts, no further details will be released at this time.”
– Lieutenant General Steve Boivin, Commander Canadian Joint Operations Command
Canadian military personnel are deployed to Latvia as part of Operation Reassurance, a mission that the Canadian government recently extended for an additional three years.
My thoughts are with Warrant Hohl’s family. Let’s hope he is found safe.
