Jivani’s comments have sparked a fierce backlash among Canadians outraged at his ‘blame Canada’ approach.
The audio of Conservative MP Jamil Jivani blaming Canada rather than the Trump Administration for Trump’s trade war and annexationist threats has been released. And contrary to those who tried to claim Jivani’s remarks had somehow been taken out of context, the context confirms that Jivani was indeed seeking to pin the blame on Canadians by dismissing our righteous anger at Trump’s treatment of Canada as a “hissy fit.” You can listen to those comments below:
Jivani’s comments have led to a significant backlash, and justifiably so. It is simply unacceptable for a Canadian politician to be trying to gaslight Canadians and dismissing the logical opposition we have towards the Trump Administration, given the hostile actions of that Administration towards Canada, as I noted previously:
“You are now seeing the pattern with Jivani’s comments. He never acknowledges where Canadians’ anger towards the Trump Administration comes from. He never acknowledges Trump’s annexation threats, ever-changing demands, and deliberate effort to inflict economic pain on Canadians to force us to give up our sovereignty. Jivani pretends none of that exists, and then acts as if Canadians are angry for some sort of unknowable irrational reason.”
Canadians did not start the trade war. We did not ask for, nor did we deserve, threats of the annexation of our country. And no amount of gaslighting will change those facts.
